Bullhouse is a great complex overall. The pros and cons are typical for downtown living. What I mean is you are going to love the location and things to do/eat nearby but there may be encounters with the homeless. Furthermore, the demographic is mostly young professionals/singles; with this comes a territory you will see a lot of dogs and some residents may not respect the rules that are considerate of other residents. The cons are very minor and the property is very secure with keycard entry at all entrances and the property management team are always aware and enforce community rules. This apartment community is one of the most affordable and spacious apartments in the downtown Durham area. As for the property staff they are always very helpful and friendly including the maintenance team. They put a lot of effort in building a good community by always sending community updates and hosting events which is nice. The appliances breakdown often and the maintenance team on average takes 3-5 days to complete work orders; however, they are always super fast with emergency work orders. Outside of the appliances not being the best quality, Bullhouse would receive a 5 star rating. I love the amenities they have and we have had a great experience here. Thank you Bullhouse :)
Edit: the apartment itself is nice. The amenities and other features such as the parking garage gate and pool are often broken or out of commission. Communication with the office is extremely difficult, and you have to go down in person to get a response. The trash is almost never picked up despite paying a 25 dollar fee every month. I had a broken dishwasher for two weeks before maintenance responded.
Overall I really enjoy living here. The apartment staff organization and communication has really been improving over the past few months and I can tell the staff care and are doing their best with requests etc. Specifically, Natalia, Alec, and Kendall have been so kind and accommodating to me and my requests, and I really appreciate their willingness to help. We now have guest parking as well, which is nice.
The location of the property is amazing and the rent is the best in the area. I am able to walk to the tobacco district, DPAC (about a 5-8 min walk) and downtown (about a 10-15 min walk) which has been great.
The apartment property itself is nice, there is construction going on which can make things dusty but that is to be expected when you are that close to a construction site. The construction also appears to be coming to an end soon which will be nice with the added retail spaces.
There is a train that goes by every once in awhile, so if you are adverse to noise, I would make sure you check where your apartments location is. The ones further from the tracks are not as bad and I have not personally been bothered by it and have adjusted.
The apartment I currently am in is spacious and I have been enjoying it!
I am 7 months into my lease and love my time living at Bullhouse so far! The rooms are spacious with high ceilings at a price point that makes sense in the area. Location is perfect for walkability to downtown without being in the center of everything. Above all, I love the team here. Kendall and Brittany always make my day when I stop by in the lobby and the maintenance team is so thoughtful! Doesn't have some of the bells and whistles that the new buildings do, but can easily live without.
Apartments are nice, clean, and good floor plans with high ceilings. Maintenance and staff are typically quick to respond. The amenities are great, however, there always seems to be some small issue going on. But overall, really enjoy living here. Location is convenient to the Durham Bulls Stadium, American Tobacco Campus, Ponysaurus Brewing, and a short walk to most downtown areas.
After living here for a year I have decided to give this complex 4/5. I would rate it a 3.5/5 if I could but don't mind rounding up.
All of my complaints about this complex are regarding noise. There was extremely loud construction for 12/13 months of my lease waking me up every day at 7am 6 days a week and disrupting me during the day while I am working. I can also hear almost everything my upstairs neighbor does. I never heard the previous tenant so maybe I just got unlucky with the new one but that is simply a risk you take with apartments. That being said, this complex being downtown means there is a lot more outside noise than other places but it doesn't typically affect my day even working from home. I can say the same for the Venable. I can often hear Bull City Ciderworks in the summers, people talking on the sidewalk, and dogs barking from the complex across the street but it is easy to tune out. I enjoy a type of quiet that cannot be obtained by living downtown and that is why I am not renewing my lease.
Another issue I have here is the cost of the lifestyle fee as it is the highest of any apartment complex I have toured in two years. It includes cable and internet but I do not feel I am getting the value for the charge as I don't use the cable package. It is great for any sports fans though!
Now on to the things I do like. The leasing office staff are amazing. They are always so helpful and kind and willing to go the distance to help out. Kendall and Kaci especially have been angels. I love the community events as well. Maintenance has also been a pleasure. My issues are always resolved within a week of submitting the notice and they have always been respectful while in my studio since I work from home. I also like the style of the apartment. I live in a studio and I feel I am getting a lot of space for the square footage. The space is utilized well and has a cozy feel despite the modern finishes.
I have lived in some real stinkers of apartments and this one has overall been enjoyable and I feel I could recommend it. Despite being downtown, I(26F) feel very safe living here. I have not had any issues with suspicious activity, no bugs in the apartment, kind neighbors, and the convenience of being so close to entertainment and food is a huge bonus.
The only reason I am giving this complex a 3.5/5 is because the construction noise significantly impacted my ability to enjoy living here. It was outrageously loud all day and then I had to listen to a loud upstairs neighbor all night. I was constantly bombarded by noise from 7am to almost midnight every single day and was simply not ever able to enjoy a moment of peace and quiet until the construction stopped. I know that isn't the complexes fault but not much was done from my POV to remedy the situation without breaking my lease.
My tour with Kendall was the best I had in the area! She was so thorough in explaining the community and helping me pick the perfect floor plan for me. I have visited Durham a few times in the past, but Kendall really showed me the charm …
Amazing place to live. Walkable to downtown Durham and conveniently located by major highways and roadways. Staff are friendly and maintenance turnaround has always been prompt (within 1-2 days). …
I’ve lived here at Bullhouse for 2 years and it has been a great experience! Kendall in the main office is simply amazing. She was always very patient and friendly whenever I came down with concerns and questions and I could tell she really cared about finding a way to provide a satisfactory solution to issues I may have had. The apartment was really nice and it is a solid community.
